I have to admit I’m not a financial genius. I’m not even sure that I’m financially smart. I certainly don’t make enough money to cover all living expenses and have some left over for investing. I also have to admit that the recent news of financial doom is difficult for me to understand. Usually the writers use catch-phrases and language that I don’t fully understand. Take the following example:
“In addition to broadening the collateral [the Fed] will accept from investment banks for direct Fed loans, it said it would increase the amount of Treasury securities it auctions on a regular basis under one of its lending programs (Reuters.com).”
This might as well be Greek to me. I don’t get it. What are Treasury securities? What are these auctions? Lending programs? Whatever. I don’t know.
I do know that many are concerned about the current state of American finance–and many more risk losing years of savings. While I don’t understand everything, I constantly ask that the Lord might grant me wisdom in these financial matters. We live in an amazing country in which those that wish to make money can do so. I’m not familiar with the tools necessary to do so. But I am familiar with the Toolmaker. And in these troubled waters, He grants comfort to those whose boats have become less seaworthy.
May these scriptures on money bring comfort:
Matthew 7:11
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!
Matthew 6:31-32
Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat ‘ or ‘What will we drink ‘ or ‘What will we wear for clothing ‘ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
Psalm 37:25
I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread.
Luke 12:7
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
Keep Paddling,
