I had originally intended to take my two oldest daughters to the Daddy-Daughter Dance at Gateway Church. In fact, I had pretty well promised to take them. Well, as it turns out, both evenings were sold out, so I had to make good in another way.
Tonight was the night I took Rebecca on her date. I surprised her with a pink rose by showing up at the front door and ringing the doorbell. The pink rose stands for elegance. I wanted to be sure she understood how much I valued her.
Funny story that goes along with this: My youngest daughter became very jealous when Rebecca received her rose. In fact, later, I caught the youngest weeping uncontrollably in the living room. I asked her what was wrong, and she replied by asking (through crocodile tears) if she could go with us. I had to promise that her turn was coming, but tonight was for Rebecca; It took some extra love and cajoling, but she eventually composed herself.
Rebecca and I went on to bowl and have dinner together. It was fantastic conversation. I was able to ask my daughter questions that I don’t normally ask. In fact, I found out things about her that I didn’t know before. This was definately one of the most valuable moments I’ve spent with my daughter in a long time!
