August 31 is my official anniversary with Gateway Worship. That day represented two years that I’ve actively served on a regular basis from the platform.
The day is significant for me in two ways.
The first is simply because worship can be found at the very core of who I am. It defines me, but as I worship, I define it.
The second is because it represents a benchmark.
Benchmarks remind me where I’ve been; they remind what I’ve done; and they point out where I am.
But more importantly, benchmarks help me see the path on which I’m headed. If the benchmark represents a pattern I don’t want, or don’t feel the Lord leading me down, I need to make changes.
That I’m celebrating two years on worship team, that I continue to minister regularly, that I lead songs on occasion, and that I serve in a leadership role on the team tells me I’m right on track with God’s calling and sending on my life. The path is as it should be.
What are the benchmarks you use to help guide your life?
