Saturday during worship rehearsal, my wife came out to let me know that there was a large, odd shaped gift in the back room with my name on it. Knowing my birthday is still several months off, I was curious to find out what had been left for me–and why. When I reached the gift, a card was attached to the front. I opened the card to find some very kind words and a greeting simply signed, “Your Friend.”
I opened the gift to find a brand new Takamine EG561C guitar (see picture at left). Someone actually gave me a guitar! I was immensely overwhelmed and speechless. Frankly, this is an answer to prayer. The guitar I use at home and for small functions like life groups is nearly ripped to shreds. I’ve used it for many, many years, leading worship countless times and shedding many tears on it. The inner electronics have worn out and the paint job is shot. I’ve been praying for a while now that the Lord would provide a new guitar to replace my aging one.
I write this so that it might be an encouragement to those who continue to ask the Lord to provide a want. I certainly didn’t need a new guitar, but I did want one. He knows our need, but he’s also aware of our wants. In His good timing he even meets our wants. My family and I believe heavily in giving and make a practice of it as often as the Lord allows us. Robert Morris, senior pastor at Gateway Church has an amazing teaching series on this very topic. We have found God’s Word to be true in so many respects and have taken Him up on the invitation to test him in the area of tithing. Time after time He has meet our needs. And time after time he has granted our wants. If you are currently praying that the Lord would provide a “want,” I encourage you to examine your own life–have you given to someone to provide for their “need?”
This gift also serves as a reminder to me that the Lord will take care of the numerous bills that have been coming in as a result of my heart failure. He knows all that we need and all that we want, and is fully capable of meeting them all!
